Paraguayan and Mexican harp virtuoso and Lila Downs collaborator Celso Duarte performs traditional and fusion music inspired by baroque, jarocho, and jazz.
Heir to a rich musical and cultural tradition, Paraguayan-Mexican harpist Celso Duarte tours internationally with his own Celso Duarte Ensemble, known for its unusual instrumentation and compelling fusion of musical styles, as well as with Lila Downs’s band La Misteriosa (with whom he has recorded nine albums, including the Latin Grammy-winning One Blood) and other major international recording artists like Wynton Marsalis, Mercedes Sosa, Susana Baca, and Julieta Venegas. A frequent guest of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, Duarte premiered the jarocha suite of his work for string and harp octet, Cascabel, at Carnegie Hall in 2011.
