FILM / Screening and Q&A
Con Alma
For the first time, México Now Festival and CortoCircuito Latino Short Fest NY join forces to celebrate Latino culture with the New York Premiere of Con Alma, presented in partnership with NYU’s Espacio de Culturas and CLACS.
This moving documentary follows acclaimed musicians Magos Herrera and Paola Prestini, who created a global musical collaboration, Con Alma, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Featuring over 30 artists, Con Alma grew into an album and live performances, which would include a landmark concert at the United Nations on gender equality.
Blending testimonies, archival footage, and animations by Kevork Mourad, directors Marta Ferrer and Pedro González Rubio capture a journey of resilience, solidarity, and hope.
A Q&A with artists will follow the screening.
Con Alma will be preceded by the short film, Lamento.
A poetic reflection on time, memory, migration, and climate change, Lamento stars Grammy-winning artist Gaby Moreno and actor Tony Revolori.
Set in an abandoned Guatemalan beach resort overtaken by the sea, the film follows Gaby on a haunting journey to rediscover a childhood place now on the brink of disappearance. Guided by a fisherman (Revolori) and FINITOR, a flying obsidian rock with a 3D lens, they strive to preserve the memory of a land and life before they vanish. Inspired by Moreno and Contreras’ personal journeys from Guatemala to Los Angeles, the film honors their roots while embracing new horizons.
This event is presented in partnership with NYU’s Espacio de Culturas and the NYU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS).
