A Celebrate Mexico Now tradition lives on. The Morelia International Film Festival, one of Mexico’s most renowned gatherings for contemporary cinema, sends us four award-winning short films from its 2015 edition ranging from animation to documentary. All films are in Spanish with English subtitles.
Following the screening, stay with us for a Q&A with directors Nuria Menchaca and Esteban Arrangoiz.

Where You Will Never Die by Héctor Alexis Estrada García
Award for Online Mexican Short Film | Michoacan Section Award
Duration: 16 min
Synopsis: Diana is a dreamer and a painter, after the murder of a journalist she meets Leo, another young journalist who finds it impossible to exercise his professional ethics. Both inevitably end up plunging into the rough and limited world of journalism.
Bounce Back by Nuria Menchaca
Award for Animated Short Film
Duration: 6 min
Synopsis: A homeless drunk man and his loyal dog live under a bridge. One day, a big storm comes and changes their destiny. Animated over the pages of 40 old books, Bounce Back is an experimental animation project based on the poem by Hélène Matte.
The Diver by Esteban Arrangoiz
Award for Documentary Short Film
Duration: 16 min
Synopsis: Julio César Cú Cámara is the chief diver in the Mexico City sewerage system, he job is to repair pumps and dislodge garbage that flows into the gutters to maintain the circulation of sewerage waters.
Bosnian Dream by Sergio Flores Thorija
Award for Fiction Short Film
Duration: 33 min
Synopsis: Ivana is a young Bosnian working class woman that dreams about moving to America. Nevertheless, this dream feels very distant because she has to take care of her sick mother and works in a kitchen to be able to support her.
