Join us for an evening with the singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Maya Burns, whose music ties cultures together through a powerful message of unification. Burns will play alongside Victor Delagarza and Micheal Benham at jazz club Terraza 7, deemed by The New York Times as “a beloved fixture in one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the country.”
Burns travelled around California with her parents, crafters at music festivals such as Live Oak, and grew up in Ensenada, Mexico, since she was four. Her bicultural upbringing played a big role in her musical education and shaped her style as a combination of ranchero, rock, folk, funk and jazz. She has played at festivals such as Whole Earth, Live Oak, Irvine Lake Festival, and was the headliner of the 2018 Jazzatlán Festival. In 2016, she was the musical director for eXtras, a play by the writer and journalist Sabina Berman and performed by the Bichir brothers that won the LA Critics Choice Award.
Maya constantly explores diverse genres with her voice, piano, guitar, and saxophone. At a very young age, she has managed to craft a fascinating multicultural identity that continues to captivate audiences all over.
