We are partnering with restaurant Cantina Cumbancha to present Brunch with a Cause: Domingo en Familia, an event to celebrate artistry, Mexican culture, the families in which we´re born and the ones we create along the way. Profits from ticket sales will be donated to Make the Road NY to help reunite families separated at the border.
We will eat, drink, and spend some time together, as well as enjoy the work of visual artist Cuevawolf, who is going to present La Lotería Viva, a collection of photographs that depict live versions of the Mexican lotería. As this traditional game is deeply tied to family unity, Cuevawolf is calling the Latinx community to gather and help immigrant families who need to find their way back to each other.
Tickets for this event are $40 and include brunch, two drinks, and access to an artist talk and meet-and-greet with Cuevawolf.
La Lotería Viva consists of 54 images, each representing a card from the lotería deck. This remarkable collection offers an escape into a world that exists between reality and fantasy. It makes up an extraordinary exhibition that embodies the Mexico’s spirit and resurgence in an unprecedented way. Cuevawolf was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and currently resides in New York City. Her work explores themes such as feminism, social science, the divine, and self-identity through storytelling.
Cantina Cumbancha is a family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, specializing in traditional recipes as well as new interpretations of Mexican dishes north of the border. Cumbancha hosts live music, indigenous art, and literary events on a consistent basis, many times in support of non-profits and independent artists.
